Orchestra “Volkonsky Consort” The Volkonsky Consort was founded in Moscow by some of the leading Madrigal musicians, and aims to carry on the tradition of authentic early music performances, using a wide variety of period instruments, including strings, recorders, crumhorns, shawms, pipes etc. Each soloist has masterful command of several instruments, often changing them during a concert. The Consort often goes on tours all over Russia and abroad, and its repertoire embraces almost all European music from the 13th to the 18th century. Apart from medieval songs and dances, whose authors are often anonymous, great works by Palestrina, Gesualdo da Venosa, Monteverdi, Purcell, Schütz, Bach and other composers have a place of honour in the Consort's programmes. © All rights reserved 2011         nik@thAnAS
