State Russian Ballet
The history of the Russian State Ballet is similar to the story of Cinderella who became
princess due to her kindness, sincerity and indefatigable work. In 1981 it was born as a
small company. Nobody could imagine that soon this modest troupe will turn into one of
the leading ballet theatres of Russia and win global renown. It was Vyacheslav Gordeev,
eminent dancer and choreographer, who led the company to new heights. In 1984 he
took over and started work on the expansion of its repertoire and its new image.
Performances at home and abroad earned the love of audiences and recognition of
critics. The Russian State Ballet can boast many impressive victories of its dancers at
international competitions and prestigious personal and company awards. There were
numerous premieres, tours and performances on the most prestigious stages of the
world. Outstanding ballet artists who worked with the RSB include Nina Timofeeva,
Ekaterina Maximova, Nadezhda Pavlova, Marina Semionova, Asaf Messerer and Julio
Bocca. Today the Russian State Ballet can fairly be called an international ballet star.
Those who adhere to the academic style can reveal their talents in such classical
masterpieces as "Swan Lake", "Sleeping Beauty", "Nutcracker", "Giselle" or "Don
Quixote", while modern trends are also treated with respect.
